How
did I start ?
When I was 15 a member from the British talent team came to my school
and was testing people my age on mountain bike to see if there was
any talent in schools for the 2012 Olympics and beyond. The whole year
was time on a 300m track and I got one of the fastest times in the
year and was asked to come back for more training. They guy got my
into a local club (cycle club Ashwell) and I brought my first road
bike. At first I only did the odd ride every Sunday with the club to
keep fit, but then I made good mates with Jake who is a year older
and inspired me to start riding regularly as he was very good and I
want to be as fast as him. As time progressed I started to train 4-5
days a week and was put in touch with Lawrence Oldershaw who is a 2x
ex iron man long course winner who trained and taught me how to compete
and race at a good level. He set me monthly training programs and was
training 6-7 days a week and after turning 16 I started racing on the
road, I also met Jim Rees from the club and then got me thinking and
believing that maybe I could take this a step further and dream bigger
and race at professional level.
Best
moment on the bike
Finishing 2nd in the Ashwell Primavera road race, even thought I was
beaten by an ex-professional I was pleased with my ride and gained
enough points to move up to category 3, also getting picked for the
eastern regional team to race in the junior tour of Wales.
What
inspires me
Well at first watching my mate Jake, he was so fast and powerful, but
then I realised you need a to have a good mind set to do well, not
just in races but in life and that’s when Jim inspires me, it
must have been tough physically and mentally to finish the RAAM, and
just hearing the stories makes me want to ride my bike.
What
I want to achieve
Short term
To win my first road race
To achieve a 2nd category road licence
To ride for a road race team such as Glendene - a good local team who
are good and helping juniors achieve there full potential.
Long
term
Get into the Olympic development squad (3years)
Ride for an Elite road racing team
To achieve a Elite race licence
To compete in the RAAM as a four man team, if all goes well then maybe
solo
To train and complete a iron man at a later stage in life
